Lanso Instruments Successfully Completes Digital Online Monitoring Project for the Wuhai Hainan 500 kV Substation Project

Recently, construction activities at the Wuhai Hainan 500 kV Transmission and Substation Project, undertaken by Wuhai Extra-High Voltage Power Supply Company of Inner Mongolia Power Group, have been progressing steadily, with installation and commissioning activities advancing in an orderly manner.
Located in the Low-Carbon Industrial Park of the Wuhai Hainan High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Inner Mongolia, the project represents a total investment of approximately RMB 520 million. The planned configuration includes four 1,200 MVA main transformers, with two units included in the current phase. The project is designed with ten 500 kV outgoing circuits and sixteen 220 kV outgoing circuits, of which seven 500 kV circuits and five 220 kV circuits are included in the current phase. The project is scheduled to be completed and commissioned by the end of September 2026 and represents a key backbone transmission and substation project for the West Inner Mongolia Power Grid.

To enhance the digitalized operation and maintenance of GIS equipment within the substation, Lanso Instruments undertook the implementation of the project's online condition monitoring system. The project adopts Lanso Instruments' independently developed next-generation integrated SF₆ gas density and moisture online monitoring meters, covering four GIS equipment sections, including the Wuhai No. 1 and No. 2 circuits, No. 1 and No. 3 main transformers, Jilantai No. 1 and No. 2 circuits, and the Wuhai Pumped Storage project, with a total of 168 monitoring points.
The Lanso project team efficiently completed equipment delivery, on-site installation, commissioning, and integrated testing with the intelligent monitoring platform. Stable data transmission was successfully established across all monitoring points, with all key performance indicators meeting the specified requirements. The project was therefore successfully completed and delivered.

The online monitoring system provides an additional layer of operational safety for the scheduled commissioning of the No. 1 and No. 3 main transformers. It also establishes a solid digital foundation for the subsequent grid connection of wind and solar renewable energy projects in the Low-Carbon Industrial Park and the integration of the Wuhai pumped-storage energy storage facility.
As a key project for optimizing the power grid structure of West Inner Mongolia, the Wuhai Hainan 500 kV Transmission and Substation Project will further strengthen the regional 500 kV backbone grid after commissioning. It is expected to improve regional power supply reliability and renewable energy accommodation capacity, while providing essential grid infrastructure for the implementation of the “Alxa-to-Wuhai” regional renewable energy interconnection project. The project will further support the green and low-carbon energy transition of Wuhai and Alxa.

Lanso Instruments' independently developed integrated SF₆ gas density and moisture online monitoring solution enables real-time monitoring of the SF₆ gas condition in GIS equipment, supporting early warning of potential equipment abnormalities and risks. Through digital condition monitoring technologies, Lanso Instruments helps safeguard the safe and stable operation of substations and contributes to the high-quality development of the West Inner Mongolia Power Grid.
